Storage and Safe Use of IBC Containers

Published on: 29-04-2024

The versatility and capacity of mausers make them indispensable in many manufacturing and logistics processes. However, to ensure the safe and efficient use of IBCs, it is important to follow safety standards.

What is an IBC container?
An IBC (Intermediate Bulk Container) is a type of reusable container designed to store and transport liquid and bulk substances. It consists of a metal or plastic pallet, a plastic tank and an outer cover. Capacity usually ranges from 300 to 1,000 liters, making them ideal for storing larger quantities of substances.

Proper storage of IBCs
Proper storage of IBCs is crucial to ensure the safety and security of the substances stored.

Here are some important steps to take when storing IBCs:
Selecting the right location:
Choose a flat, stable and well-ventilated place to store the mauser. Make sure the location is well away from sources of heat, sources of ignition, and chemicals that may react with the substances stored in the containers.
Protection from the weather:
IBCs should be stored in a location that protects them from extreme weather conditions, such as intense sunlight, frost or rain. If necessary, use covers or a canopy.
Regular inspections:
Regularly inspect the condition of IBCs. Pay special attention to damage, leaks and possible signs of corrosion. A damaged mauler should be repaired or replaced immediately.
Avoid excessive loading:
Maintain the maximum allowable weight for each IBC. Excessive loading can lead to structural damage and increase the risk of an accident.
Proper labeling:
Equip IBCs with appropriate signage that informs the public of the contents, hazards, and how to deal with accidents.
Isolation from other substances:
If you store different substances in IBCs, make sure they are properly identified and isolated from each other to avoid unwanted chemical reactions.

Proper storage of IBCs is key to ensuring workplace safety and protecting the environment. Strict adherence to safety standards and regular inspections can help avoid accidents and potential damage. Remember that safety should always be a priority when using IBCs.

Plastic pallet for warehouse automation: why dimension and repeatability decide

Automated systems (AS/RS, conveyors, wrappers) require pallets with a repeatable dimension, constant weight and a flat underside — so HDPE plastic pallets outperform wood. No protruding nails or splinters means no line jams.
