Warehouse Safety - Storage Racks

The first step to success is a properly designed storage rack. The Ordinance of the Minister of Labor and Social Policy (Dz.U.03.169.1650) imposes an obligation to constantly control occupational safety and health. And in particular, the organization of work processes, the technical condition of machinery and other equipment. Leaving aside the regulations themselves, it is definitely better to prevent accidents than to suffer their consequences. Therefore, already at the stage of equipping the warehouse with warehouse racks and carts, it is necessary to think about their future safe use.
The first issue is properly made warehouse racking, while the second is proper operation. When the warehouse racks are delivered, the user also receives a manual, where the rules for the correct use of the warehouse racks are given. More specifically, the rules for the proper storage of goods and the rules for inspecting the technical condition of the storage racks. The most important role in maintaining safety is played by employees and the employer, but you can help yourself. In what way? Through additional equipment that protects warehouse racks from damage during forklift impacts:
- rack servo bumpers,
- warehouse rack frame bumpers,
- pallet stops,
- gratings or particle board shelves,
- forklift guides.
However, it is the proper use of warehouse racking that takes into account the various risk factors present in a project, so only such a company that offers a comprehensive service can issue a declaration of conformity for the entire racking system. If the customer assembles or configures the storage racks himself, he is responsible for their safe installation. If he makes changes on his own, he risks voiding the warehouse rack warranty. When choosing a warehouse racking supplier, it is extremely important to choose a reliable company. It is best to work with a company that provides comprehensive service.
A weekly inspection of the technical condition of the storage racks is mandatory. On the other hand, periodic inspections by specialized teams should be carried out at least once a year. The obligation of periodic inspections is regulated by the revised standard EN 15635:2008.
