"My Rain" is the latest program in which Gliwice residents can receive up to PLN 4,000 in subsidies for the construction of rainwater tanks.
On its website, the City of Gliwice justifies catching rainwater with a number of benefits.
"Maintaining the natural level of groundwater resources in our surroundings, improving the local microclimate and biodiversity, and reducing the use of dwindling drinking water resources for watering and household purposes."
The local "My Rain" program aims to encourage rainwater harvesting. The program in question is part of the City of Gliwice's Climate Change Adaptation Plan.
The subsidy proposal says residents can expect partial or full reimbursement of costs incurred to purchase and install rainwater containers.
Gliwice's "My Rain" program is intended to complement the program run by the Provincial Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, "My Water."
Since the pool of funds of the Voivodeship Environmental Protection and Water Management Fund in both 2020 and 2021 ran out very quickly, the City of Gliwice decided to launch a municipal program. "Rainwater collection is important for the city, I don't think I need to convince anyone," Mariusz Siewok, deputy mayor of Gliwice, stresses in his article.
"My Rain" means up to PLN 4 thousand in subsidies
Gliwice will subsidize up to 85 percent of the costs incurred for the purchase, construction and installation of underground or aboveground tank elements with a capacity of up to 10 m3, the subsidy also applies to decorative tanks. However, the amount of the subsidy may not exceed PLN 4 thousand of one-time support.
The amount allocated to the "My Rain" program is half a million zlotys.
At the moment, further editions are planned, in which the city also wants to provide subsidies for the construction of rain gardens in containers or in the ground, an absorption well, as well as for the adaptation of inactive underground tanks (septic tanks) for the collection of rainwater and snowmelt. The planned programs are intended to be flexible, and will be adjusted according to reported demand over the course of the program.
