What are pallet collars?
Pallet collars (also known as pallet enclosures or pallet covers) are elements mounted on a standard pallet that create a closed or semi-open workspace for storing and transporting goods. The most common models are:
- wooden (pallet frames) — a classic solution, popular in trade and light industry,
- plastic pallet collars — durable, hygienic, moisture-resistant and easy to disinfect,
- foldable plastic collars — ideal when space saving in the warehouse is important.
The collars are compatible with the most popular pallet formats: 1200x800 mm (Euro pallet) and 1200x1000 mm (industrial pallet).
How do pallet collars work and why are they so effective?
The idea behind the collar is simple:
➡️ you place it on the pallet,
➡️ you create ‘walls’,
➡️ you secure the goods,
➡️ you fold it when it is not needed.
This seemingly simple element can radically improve warehouse efficiency.
Key functions of pallet collars:
Protecting goods from spillage, shifting and falling out.
Stackability, which increases storage capacity without the need to rebuild the warehouse.
Space saving – foldable versions take up minimal space when folded.
Stabilisation of the load during internal and external transport.
Flexibility – several extensions allow you to increase the height as needed.
This solution is ideal for companies that work with a variety of goods and need to quickly adapt to changes in their product range.
Advantages of pallet extensions – an expert's view
1. Increased storage capacity
Extensions allow you to create vertical storage modules without investing in additional racks.
This is particularly useful in seasonal and production warehouses, where the volume of goods changes dynamically.
2. Protection of goods
Extensions protect products from mechanical damage, slipping off the pallet and dirt.
This is particularly important in the following industries:
- food,
- processing,
- logistics,
- printing,
- automotive.
3. Easy to disinfect and keep clean (in the case of plastic)
Plastic models can be washed, disinfected and used in environments with high hygiene requirements, including cold stores and production halls.
4. Optimisation of order picking trolleys
Extensions simplify the work of operators — goods do not fall off the pallet and are easier to sort and move.
5. Cost savings
Instead of investing in dedicated containers, companies can adjust the height and capacity of pallets using extensions.
This is an economical and scalable solution.
Where do pallet extensions work best?
Extensions are extremely versatile, but they are particularly effective in:
1. Order picking in e-commerce and retail
They allow products to be separated, stabilise them and facilitate inventory control.
2. Manufacturing and processing
They are ideal for semi-finished products, structural elements and components.
3. Internal logistics in industrial plants
They facilitate inter-sector transport and segregation of elements.
4. Storage of seasonal goods
Foldable models allow you to respond quickly to increases in volume.
5. Food industry
Plastic stackers are hygienic and moisture-resistant, which is important in cold stores and processing plants.
